Dans son dernier album, John Lennon affirmait :

  • « God is a concept by which we measure our pain. »
    Then he added : « I think that the bigger the pain, the more God you look for. »
  • « Dieu est un concept par lequel nous mesurons notre douleur. »
    Lors d’un interview au magazine Rolling Stones, il ajouta  :  « Je pense que plus la douleur est grande en soi, plus on cherche Dieu. «
